Every new website we build has a blog, and the vast majority of companies now have a blog incorporated into their current website. Yet so many companies rarely update their blog — partially because they don’t have time, but also because they don’t know how to properly write blog posts. Those who do update their blog could also benefit from a few tips for writing effective blog posts both for SEO purposes and for your audience. Out of all our clients currently signed up for our SEO packages, only a handful of them actually regularly update their blog properly on a regular basis. This can be a huge issue for their SEO campaigns.
Over the years I’ve used various different blogging styles, including heavy calls to action, sales blogs, informative blogs, and authority blogs. Out of all the various styles of blogging, I’ve found that a combination of authority and information will give you the best SEO results and the best conversion results. Let’s face it — no one likes to spend an hour writing a blog post and not gain anything from it, so here’s a few easy tips to follow when blogging to make sure you see an ROI on your blog posts.
Making your audience interested means quality content and optimized content. SEO and good content can run hand in hand — you don’t need to write posts with your keyword as every other word. Search engines are getting smarter, and they can pick up on your keywords if they’re only used a few times. So focus on making your audience interested and building your authority in your niche. You can do this by showing how much knowledge you have and effectively transferring that knowledge on to your readers.
Make sure you update your blog post’s title, URL, and headings to reflect the keyword you’re going after. But at the same time, make sure those elements are catchy. For example, instead of saying “Blog Writing Tips” which is likely your keyword, you could say “Effective Blog Writing Tips In 10 Minutes A Day” as this uses your keyword but will still grab your audience’s attention in a better fashion. The same applies for the URL and headings — catchy but optimized.
Add social buttons to every blog post. There’s plugins out there to use, or you can manually add them, but you should always add Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Share This, and LinkedIn buttons to all your blog posts. This will help people share them with their friends and it also increases the chances of you getting website traffic and incoming links — two great elements for SEO and ranking better.
I think the biggest issue people have is sticking with their blog. It’s easy to follow these tips every now and then, but you need to follow them every single day. I read a study a few weeks back that companies who blog 20 times or more per month earn 5 times more online revenues — that’s a mind blowing statistic and in my experiences that sounds about right. Quality blogging is key in any niche, so make sure you stay on top of it.
While these tips won’t turn a blog into a gold mine overnight, over time they will help you generate more traffic, be viewed as an authority in your niche, and improve your online revenues. I know from experience on my own website and on client’s websites that blogging really does improve your SEO and your online revenues, so what are you waiting for? Get out and start blogging!
